Memories

All of these stories

Some full of joy, some full of worries

Sometimes jotted down in journals or diaries

Are life’s memories

Creating mischief and putting your friends to blame

The joy of defeating your cousins in a board game

Teasing your best friend’s with their crush’s last name

All these memories are beautiful, all the same

Packing suitcases

And visiting different places

Getting photographs clicked making different faces

And then later, remembering the times spent in these oasis…

Binge watching web series and shows

At late night just before you doze

And then getting annoyed when the mobile screen buffers and froze

Ah, what times where those!

Those small successes

Of winning a quiz through guesses

Or getting first prize in a competition where you had to wear fancy dresses

Reminiscing those give the most joy to your brain and its five senses

Sit back and go through your life’s memories on a random day of July

And one moment, they leave you horrified

And in the next, you’ll be flying in the sky

And before you realise, you might have tear in your eye…

2019…

As 2019 heads to a close, I have been thinking about how the year panned out and I came to the conclusion that it was one full of surprises(good and bad), love and hate, and full of moments that can never be forgotten. In short, the year was quite eventful and interesting, to say the least 🙂

  1. First of all, I started writing this blog!! And it came out to be my savior whenever I needed to vent out my feelings on whatever topic it may be. Also, I started writing poetry all thanks to this platform. 31 January 2019, the date of my first post and also the date I would never forget in my life. 50 posts aren’t bad in 10 months and I’m quite proud of myself for that. Also, to those people who have followed the blog since the start, I have a special place in my heart for you all!
  2. Made a lot of memories with some of my best friends playing video games(I would be lying if I said if I wasn’t addicted to Fortnite) and talking nonsense till 3 AM every day just before my Class X Board Examinations(Apparently a big deal here in India). Managed a decent grade in the same despite all of this so-called time wastage
  3. A special mention for the special birthday surprise from my closest buddies. It was one hell of a birthday!!
  4. Made an awesome friend who has always supported me ever since. Also, I made some confidants who were once not so loving towards me <3.
  5. I went to Yellowstone National Park and saw the geysers that I read about so much in textbooks. The park’s attractions like The Old Faithful, The Caldera, and the Mammoth Hot Springs were quite a spectacle and were totally different from the usual tourist spots. Also visited Toronto just around the time the Raptors won. Let’s just say that the city was crazy during this time.
  6. I wrote a book!! Well, a single story which is going to be published in a book and it was an interesting experience! Not to forget the  complications that I had to go through to change some part of the story due to a reason (SECRET)
  7. Took up Commerce as my main subject(after a lot of deliberation) in class 11 and to be honest, I could have taken up Psychology but am still satisfied with my decision. (Economics is love)
  8. Learnt some new skills unknowingly.  Robotics, editing and carrying out surveys being some of them. Consistently wrote for the school magazine. Interesting fact-Around half of the articles that I had published were taken from this blog. But I lost all the basketball tournaments in which I participated. *Sobbing*
  9. I visited Sikkim, a small state in India and had some different experiences there. River rafting and hiking to name a few. Also experiences what it was like to have difficulty in breathing due to high altitude!! I also went to a hill station with my school-mates and made unforgettable memories. (3 AM Chit chat and playing cards)
  10. Maintained my old habits. I’m still an overthinker, still sensitive to emotions and still an introvert. Old habits die hard. I did get more vigilant, became more confident and tried to give all of my love and affection to all the people I like and care for.

If you were a part of my life this year in some way or the other, be it a reader and supporter of the blog or my best friend, I love you all. Let’s kill the next year and the decade together !!

Over and Out!!!

A letter to my 12 year-old self

As I reach my late teenage years, I would like to write an imaginary letter to my 12-year-old who is just about to enter his teen-life. So here it goes-

Hi. This is the 16- year- old Himanaya from the future. Yeah, I know your life is going great. You have a close group of good friends, get good grades and are doing well in sports too. But let me tell, you’re in for a wild ride in the future. Let me sum it up for you-

1. Many of your friends would leave school and you would reminisce about them a lot. You would barely have any friends (maybe 1-2) who were there with you since day one. But don’t worry, you will make a ton of new friends who are equally as good if not better. Also, 2 of your best friends will still be your best mates.

2. You love playing table tennis and are proud to be a part of the school team. But let me tell you, you would leave this sport and shift to Basketball and enjoy playing that much more. A bit difficult to digest since you once willingly left the basketball club once but it’s the truth. Also, you would stop playing cricket in the park in front of your house as none of your colony friends would come to play anymore. Instead, you will have a proper basketball stand at your house.

3. Your favorite tennis player, Rafael Nadal would win many more slams but would get injured many times as well. Your favorite cricketer M.S. Dhoni is still playing and is still winning games for India. Your favorite cager Kawhi Leonard has left the Spurs and helped the Raptors reach the finals.

4. A game named Fortnite would have you addicted and believe it or not, you would grow to hate your then-favorite game- Clash of Clans. Moreover, remember when you said that you don’t want a personal phone until you finish class 12? Well, that’s a blatant lie as you would ask and get a phone in grade 9 itself.

5. You would end up taking commerce instead of your then-favorite subject- Science. Your ambition of becoming a scientist would change to that of becoming an economist.

6. You wouldn’t care about marks anymore and would even give an exam without preparing for it. You would realize how foolish you were caring about marks so much.

7. You would end up becoming the coordinator of your school magazine and writing a story in a book. Moreover, you would start writing a blog. Writing would become your passion!!

8. Believe it or not, you would end up liking English songs more than Hindi songs. You would still be a movie buff.

9. Your hobby of reading would remain but the number of novels you would read won’t be much.

10. You would become much more confident than you were. You would still talk less in school but would stand up for yourself whenever the need be.

11. There would be really sad times but you will cope up with it. Some people will hate you and compare you with others but there would be no use thinking about them and their nonsense talks.

12. You will really mature and end up realizing that social media is a way for most people to show-off and waste time. You would stop comparing yourself to others and become more content with yourself.

13. You’d be involved in two motor accidents. You would escape without injuries but would start appreciating life more. You will also realize how lucky you are as compared to the rest of the world in terms of having materialistic comforts and luxuries, a loving and caring family, and a fairly smooth life

14. The person you would end up talking to the most is going to be a huge surprise and never in your wildest dream would you think that this would happen!

Like it or not, a huge adventure awaits you!

Are we really allowed to live our lives our own way?

We live in the world’s largest democracy(India) but I often wonder that are we being allowed to live our lives our own way in this country? The answer that comes to my mind is a starightforward ‘NO’.

Now my argument has 2 aspects. One legal and one moral. Let me talk about the moral one first. This is based on what the society and the public expects of us. They, in a way, force us become doctors or engineers when we might not be interested in these professions. If we don’t take either of these professions , we are regarded as a failure. They control our personal lives. They tell us what to do and what not to. If you want to go out with your friends which might involve both girls and boys, they start judging us. They regard us as shameless and a disgrace to our families . If we don’t want to celebrate some traditional festival and if we go against an old meaningless tradition , we are considered to be as someone who goes against his/her own culture and are condemned to no ends. If we get good grades, we are thought to be a nerd. If we don’t, we are thought to be a spoilt child. They decide how much we should learn. If we want to stay at home minding our own business, they regard us as an anti-social person. They decide how much time we get to stay out from our home. They decide our religion. They say, ” You have to follow the religion you are born into as it is a sin to change your religion”. You are thought to be a rebel if you get a tattoo. They decide how much affection you can show to people in public. It is they who decide what type of clothes you wear. You aren’t even allowed to choose whom you want to marry. “Leave it up to your parents and relatives. They know what’s best for you”. As if anyone know a person better than he knows himself. So the conclusion is that it is ‘they’ who control our social and personal life in this country.(“They” refers to the typical society) But I would like to mention that all these prejudices are changing slowly. But we still have a long way to go

Coming to the legal part, 3 of our states have banned alcohol for its citizens except for medicinal purposes. I am personally against the consumption of alcohol but according to me, every citizen has the right to decide if he wants to consume alcohol for it doesn’t have very harmful effects if taken in light amounts. The content that we might be creating in the form of movies, books, magazines etc is censored in such a way that it loses all its meaning. I myself fear writing blogs on certain topics due the growing hooliganism in our country. All these example show we aren’t being provided the rights we are entitled to in a true democracy. However I do agree that extensive rights given to us constitutionally are unparalleled and India is indeed amongst one of the most successful democracies despite the issues we face today.

I hope you will give a thought to my thoughts.
